Being a med aid and caregiver is one of the most fulfilling jobs I've worked so far. At Blue Haven, we're not only caregivers but care-partners. I work with fifteen residents that all live with different types of dementia. My job is to help them with day-to-day living needs, as well as ensuring their safety and overall health. I start work at 5:45 a.m. every morning and have breakfast with my residents after helping them out of bed and performing oral care, toileting and getting ready to start their day. I've also cooked many meals for my residents and have my food handlers license. Regulating their medications and when they have to take them, aiding them in the shower and restroom, and keeping a smile on their face are just a few of my job duties. Not only am I a med aid and caregiver, but I will also work shifts where I'm planning activities for our residents like watching movies spending some time outside, or I'm in the kitchen! The key duty of my role is working one-on-one with residents and making sure they're living life as fully as people with their mental ailments can. I am CPR and First Aid Certified as well and am able to provide certificates.
